Minutes

 

Wednesday January 29, 2008, 4pm Meeting #14 in the Church

 

Present: Building Committee members Fr. Bajorek, Tom Felton, Jane Banik, Jack Quindlen, John Bowie, John Brennan and Ken Margolis along with invited guests, Rosemary Endres, Mike Keller and Betty Sprague (Church interior Designer).

 

v Minutes from the January 2nd meeting were previously approved by email consensus and posted on our Web Site.

 

14A. TomÕs firm prepared a scaled model of the Church interior illustrating two ceiling design schemes. The model was extremely helpful in depicting the design and allowed a good visual to determine cost reduction opportunities to bring the ceiling design closer to budget while maintaining a quality appearance consistent with the original design intent.

 

14B. A lengthy conversation ensued pertaining to the ceiling design and areas that still require design study, such as the transition from the wall marble to the lantern wall and the possible elimination of the rear ceiling coffers with a more simple design.

 

14C. Jane presented decorative light fixture samples for consideration and depending on budget; the ceiling can be configured to accept at a later date the actual fixtures.

 

14D. Jack presented an update on the traffic flow approval process and an alternative design idea was discussed. Jack will be making a recommendation on how best to proceed.

 

14E. The pre-bids received from five General Contractors on January 18th was discussed and four are currently being considered.

 

14F. It was agreed that Fr. Bajorek, building committee members (Jack and Ken) along with SJC Architect (Tom) will meet with the four Contractors at their offices and conduct interviews specific to the project as it relates to St. JohnÕs logistical and budget requirements.

 

14G. After the interview process is completed; the Building Committee will meet, review the findings of the interviews and discuss the proposed timeline as recommended by TomÕs firm with the objective to make a decision on how and when to proceed with the planned renovations.

 

v Next Steps:

 

á      BCMÕs to complete action items as stated above and as pending from previous meetings.

á      The Building Committee members will meet after the Contractor interview process has been completed.
