Pre-Cana

 

1. Description of Ministry
  Pre-Cana provides a marriage preparation program for those planning to marry in the Catholic Church. The day-long program is offered twice a year. Members of the Pre-Cana team present the program along with one of the Parish priests. The Pre-Cana team is made up of couples from the Parish who speak on certain topics related to married life: Communication, Adjustments, Finances, Sexuality, and Spirituality. Couples sha r e their own experiences in these areas in a series of talks, which are followed by discussions- with the engaged couples. The Pre-Cana day includes lunch and other snacks, and some members of the team contribute by organizing meals and other logistics of the day.
2. Frequency/Schedule of Meetings/Activities
  The Pre-Cana day is held twice a year on a Saturday, usually in October and March. One or two meetings are held prior to the day, and one follow-up meeting is held after the day. In addition, team members meet the Friday night before the day to set up tables, chairs, and materials. Some members help by food shopping and preparing the kitchen. Others register the engaged couples throughout the year and order and organize materials.
3. Where do I perform service?
  Service is performed primarily in the Parish House Lounge and the Lower Church Hall. Occasionally meetings are held in team members' homes. The registration couple also works at home throughout the year.
4. Who are served?
  The Pre-Cana day serves both Parish and non-Parish members. Most non-Parish members come from neighboring parishes, especially those that do not offer a Pre-Cana day.
5. Preparation
  No special training is required to participate in this ministry, other than being a married couple interested in sharing your experiences with others. Not all couples on the team give talks- some help by preparing meals and assisting with other logistical duties.
